The free trade agreement (FTA) that ally Panama is negotiating with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras successfully moved to Peru last week after the culmination of the second round of understanding among nations.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Roberto Henriquez, said, “see with great satisfaction the progress achieved in the second round in Panama when complete managed six chapters of the text of the treaty over the week, which are: competition policy, trade protection, technical barriers to trade, transparency, final provisions and dispute settlement. ”
During negotiations, Panama proposed topics with special emphasis to the economy: financial services, telecommunications, intellectual property and maritime services, the latter issue is a joint proposal with Guatemala.
Through a press release issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry confirmed that the third round will be held the week of February 28 to March 4 in the city of San José, Costa Rica.
To date, the minister’s office said Henriquez, there have been advances in the areas of customs procedures, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, government procurement, trade in services and temporary entry.
